FANBOY BY MARK SABLAN PHOTOS BY JOHN OCAMPO   I don’t own a BlackBerry smartphone, but I’m a fan. One reason why I adore BlackBerry is BBM or BlackBerry Messenger, the messaging platform for BB users. I think it’s brilliant. Imagine—it’s a mobile social network with over 50 million users worldwide, and the application is pre-installed on every BB smartphone so users can chat with contacts. You can type unlimited characters per message; update your profile with details like photos, current location, and even the songs you’re listening to; and easily add contacts by sharing PINs or scanning QR codes. BBM users can also have several conversations at once in real time, plus photos and videos can be shared with multiple users. (Typing that just made me want to get a BlackBerry even more now.) Last February 15, the brand held an event called BBM Media & Bloggers Workshop, where guests learned more about BBM. BBM fans/users such as Sam YG, Laureen Uy, and Isabelle Daza were also there to share their BlackBerry experiences, and share tips with the audience, who had fun exchanging messages, and taking and uploading photos for everyone to see. Three guests were chosen to participate in a Bring Me game—BBM style, where they had to take a photo of something and share it with the group. First to complete three wins.   My companion, Apple of Celebrity Living magazine, ended up as the winner. The interesting part is that she just bought an iPhone, which she had to return coz it had a little defect. Before going to the event, she told me she was getting impatient waiting for her new unit. As it turns out, she doesn’t need to feel impatient anymore coz she now has a new phone: a beautiful BlackBerry Bold 9900. If you are a fan of BlackBerry and if you want to win cool stuff from the brand, the brand has some good news for you. There is an ongoing BBMPhotoMe contest (it ends on February 28) over at the BlackBerry Pilipinas Facebook Fan Page (www.facebook.com/BlackBerryPH). Just upload an original photo of yourself with the BBM speech bubble, with the theme “Show How BBM Lets You Express Yourself” in mind, and then ask your friends to vote for your entry. And then they also have a series of events called “Dare to Do More: The Ultimate BBM Challenge.” The first one starts tomorrow, February 18, at the Activity Center of Trinoma, QC.
