BLOGS - FANBOY BLESSED BE APL by admin posted on August 18, 2011
FANBOY BY MARK SABLAN I heard that Black Eyed Peas member Apl.de.ap is once again in town and that he donated a music library and a computer room to the Sapang Bato National High School in Angeles, Pampanga. You have to hand it to this guy. He knows now just how to take pride in being a Filipino, he knows how to give back, too. No wonder he is blessed. I first heard about the Black Eyed Peas back when they were just a trio. They had this song featuring the lovely Macy Gray. I heard that there was a Filipino in the group—and I thought it was the guy with long hair. And then they added a fourth member—Fergie—and became huge around the world. By that time, I already knew who the Pinoy member was. I met Apl for the first time when he dropped by the country to model for clothing brand Human. I interviewed him for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and in between shoots for the brand, I got to ask him questions, all of which he gamely answered. I met him again when he held a talent search in the Philippines together with MTV. We talked about a lot of things, but he kept on raving about how talented we Filipinos are as performers. He wants to discover performers and give them that much needed break—and maybe even help them pursue a career abroad. It’s a great thing he knows how to look back where he came from and share his blessings. There’s nowhere to go but up for this guy—with or without the Black Eyed Peas. Incidentally, the Black Eyed Peas are once again holding a concert in Manila this October 25 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. We can thank Marvin Agustin and the rest of Futuretainment, Inc. and Music Management, Inc. for bringing in the multi-awarded and best-selling American hip-hop group to the country this October. If that’s not enough, they also have an early bird promo with 20% off on tickets.
