BLOGS - FANBOY MEETING THE MASTER SHOWMAN by mark-sablan posted on June 17, 2011
FANBOY BY MARK SABLAN One of my most favorite local celebrities is German “Kuya Germs” Moreno. What is not to love about Kuya Germs? He’s a living legend and a pop culture icon. Apart from having such an interesting nickname (Why would you call yourself Germs, right?), he is also known for his shining, shimmering, splendid suits (too bad he dresses modestly now) and his impressively huge collection of clowns. However, he is most popular for his now-defunct talent search/acting-on-air show That’s Entertainment, which spawned a lot—and I really mean a lot—of the stars you see on TV today. I am such a huge fan of Kuya Germs that meeting him was included in my checklist of to-do’s before I die. Last year, I finally got to meet him when I had to interview him for S magazine (the old Inside Showbiz). The interview lasted for over an hour and he shared a lot of very interesting, heartwarming stories, from his humble beginnings to how people would use him. He even cried a couple of times during the interview. After that, I started to view him differently. Sure, he was still that jolly old guy who would shout “Walang… tulugan!” on weekends (for his show Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman), but I looked at him as more human from then on. I am proud to say that we’ve become a little closer after that interview. I now have his number. I’ve ridden inside his car. I’ve accompanied him to a couple of business meetings. I’ve treated him to Starbucks (he likes coffee jelly). However, there’s still one thing I want to tick off my checklist: watch Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman live. Who wants to join me?
