FANBOY by Mark Sablan

Just like the rest of the world, I am a big fan of Jessica Sanchez. I admire the 16-year old singer’s talent so much that I would tear up every time I watch her American Idol performances on YouTube—and believe me, I rape the repeat button every time.
I don’t even know which my favorite is, because there’s a lot to choose from! All I know is that I get goosebumps (or goosies, as Jennifer Lopez would say) every time she performs. Something about her. Her ability to do vocal gymnastics. Or maybe the fact that she’s so young but she sounds so mature—in a good way. Maybe it’s her sweetness and naiveté, that suddenly disappear and get replaced by fierceness the moment she sings her songs. Or maybe it’s simply because she’s a kababayan. Whatever! I love Jessica and I am very sure that she will be an even bigger star in the very near future.
I think my favorite Jessica Sanchez performance is her rendition of the Jazmine Sullivan song “Stuttering.” It may be a not-so-popular song but thanks to her performance, now everyone’s aware of this exquisite creation. I think its message and melody perfectly fit her.
Of course, I was also bowled over when Jessica sang “And I Am Telling You” with Jennifer Holiday. While I am very familiar with the song, I have to admit that I didn’t really know how Ms. Holiday looked or sounded like live before that performance. And boy, what a revelation. I am officially a fan.
I am also a big fan of all the memes that Pinoys produced right after that monumental performance. Nakakaloka lang ang talent ng Pinoy (sa pagkanta at sa paggawa ng memes!).
Anyway, I recently found a fabulous video on YouTube. It is something so brilliant that I just have to share it with you. Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy TheFierceDoll’s cover of Jessica Sanchez and Jennifer Holiday’s “And I Am Telling You” duet. It’s hilarious. I just lost my descriptive skills. Just watch the video. And thank me by e-mailing me at mark.sablan@onemegagroup.com.
Enjoy! Here’s the video:
