The Queen of All Media admitted on The Buzz yesterday, February 6, that she can consider ex-husband James Yap and herself as friends now. “Kasi we can joke already. We can laugh,” she said.
“Of course, we still fight,” she added, sharing a recent argument about how James told her that she spoils their son Bimby.
“Pero ngayon, magkaibigan na talaga kami kasi parang mas madali nang magkuwentuhan.”
Grateful to be single
Kris also candidly shared how she is loving her life now as a single person.
“Natanggal talaga—and I can say with all honesty—yung desire to be in a relationship. Na-weird-an kayong lahat sa akin: 'Ano na ang nangyari sa kanya?' Totoo. Ito yung from somebody na for the past 20 years, sinubaybayan n'yo ang makulay na buhay pag-ibig.
“Alam n'yo, Boy, kung tatanungin mo ako at this particular moment talaga, na I am grateful for the chance to be single and to have the chance to love again. But if you're going to ask if I want to love again, not really.
“Kaya ko naman talagang magsalita ng patapos na baka hindi ko tadhanang ikasal. Baka hindi talaga para sa akin to be in a relationship. Kasi okay ako on my own ngayon. Kanina nga, noong mine-makeup-an ako to come here, aliw na aliw ako. Pinapakinggan ko si Basil Valdez singing with The Company ng “Pagdating ng Panahon”: Hindi pa siguro bukas. Hindi pa rin ngayon. Malay mo, balang-araw, darating din yun... So, hindi talaga. Kung hindi ngayon, kung hindi bukas, maybe 10 years from now.
“The truth talaga that I've learned about myself is that I'm an excellent mother. I think that even James would give me credit for that. Pero as far as being a wife or even being a girlfriend is concerned, ang hirap. Kasi talagang ano, ang dami ko pang gustong gawin. Bago ako pumunta dito, nagtanong ako kay Bimby, 'Can Mama have a boyfriend?'”
According to Kris, Bimby said no and when she asked him why, he answered: “'Because Mama I'm just gonna cry and cry and cry and I'm gonna die and I'll be dead. And you know Mama if you have a boyfriend, I'm gonna punch him at the nose and I'm gonna kick his butt.' So, habang hindi keri ni Bimby, hindi rin ako handa. So, kung a year from now, in love na ako, ina-announce ko sa 'yo na ikakasal na ako, then I eat my words. But for now, sinasabi ko po talaga na nakikita ko and I don't... I'm no longer afraid of growing old alone.”
Ending the interview, Kris said, “The big truth, as far as I'm concerned, you know who your friend is kapag nandiyan with you through the ups and down. Well, you're the additional brother that God gave to me and yun ang the big truth. Na kung naging lalaki ka lang talaga in every sense of the word, sana tayo na lang dalawa ang nagkatuluyan. At least magkasundo talaga tayo.
“Puwede ko rin sabihin that annulment is not a cause of joy. The truth is, it was a marriage that failed but it's a cause for optimism. Gusto ko lang klaruhin yun sa lahat ng tao: that James is only going to be 30 years old. Sa akin, end of the road na 'to. Pero sa 'yo, it's really just the beginning. Kung tutuusin, Boy, seven years of my life, naging malaking bahagi kami ng isa't isa. Pero for the rest of Bimby's life, bahagi kami. Ngayon, magaan na. And if there's one thing I discovered about myself, and ngayon siguro I'm most excited about talaga is that l love being a mom. I love being an actress. I love my career. And I love where I am right now. And God is good. If nobody loves me, it's really okay kasi may magla-love pa rin sa akin. Kasi inisip ko 'to, kagabi, inisip ko 'to: Ang life expectancy ng tao is 72 years old. Siguro naman in the next 31 years naman siguro, meron naman sigurong darating. I think he's coming. I think he'll buy me my own network!”
