The List FIVE FAVORITE BEAUTY PAGEANT MOMENTS

Beauty pageants have several highlights: the announcement of the semifinalists, the evening gown competition (for women), the swimsuit competition (for straight men), the proclamation of the winner. However, these aren’t the only exciting, must-watch parts. We present to you five other beauty pageant moments you highly anticipate every time there’s a pageant. – BY MARK SABLAN

OOOPS

When a contestant slips. Remember Miss USA in Miss Universe some years ago? We don’t know which is more embarrassing, though: tripping clad in your elegant gown or falling flat on your butt wearing a sexy swimsuit.

HALLOWEEN?

When the contestants think it’s Halloween. No hate or disrespect, okay? Because while some contestants do wear traditional costumes, there are those who wear weird, flamboyant, tacky or hilarious interpretations of what their country symbolizes.

BAD ACTING

When somebody shows disappointment. Or tries to hide it but can’t. We’re talking about early favorites who end up as clappers/thank you girls, the fourth runner up, and the first runner up who always tries to come up with the “I’m happy for you” face when hugging the proclaimed winner (when all she really wants to do is to whack her opponent’s face with the gem-encrusted crown).

Q&A

When someone messes up their answer during the Q&A portion. Some give circuitous or headed-nowhere answers. Other end up not answering the question. Some flaunt how bad their grammar is. Others prove they're bimbos. No wonder this portion is much anticipated. You have to save the best for last, after all.

OPEN

When the contestant realizes she’s the winner—and opens her mouth in shock just to prove it. Most winners try to cover their mouth when they do this, but we almost always get to preview just how wide they can open their mouth—sometimes wide enough for their crown to fit inside.
