I adore Viktoria. Not the Spice Girl, okay? Coz that’s Victoria, not Viktoria.
The Viktoria I am talking about is Pinay, extremely talented, and simply amazing. If you don’t know who I am talking about, read on. But I am quite sure that you’ll hear more about her and her stuff in the near future now that she’s back in the music industry.
Viktoria was once referred to as the MTV Queen because in the 90s, she was the first Pinay to release a music video on MTV Asia. It was for the single called “Sasabihin Ko Na,” which may remind you of Janet Jackson and may compel you to clutch your chest because of all the big hair and the abundance of denim but despite these (it’s the 90s, after all), you have to admit that both the song and the video are pretty damn good.
Viktoria released more awesome songs in the 90s (accompanied by excellent videos, of course), such as the beautifully shot “Dahan-Dahan” (made even more beautiful by the presence of The Patrick Guzman), released in 1993.
There is also the heartbreakingly beautiful “Sana” (once again featuring the heartbreakingly beautiful Patrick Guzman). The video is, as usual, beautifully shot. And the song is just something that a lot of people can relate to. Take these lines, for example: “Sana masaya ka na. Sa bagay, baka di naman dapat tayong dalawa. Alam kong kaya ko na. Sana.”
Some people may remember Viktoria because of her song “To Be Near You,” which was included in the Felicity OST. Something really impressive, something that proves how world-class she is.
And there are those who also remember her for the crazy-fun song “Puwede Ba?,” accompanied by an equally crazy-fun music video. Classic!
It’s all right if, after all those videos, you still don’t remember her. The good news is that she’s back! Supported by a full band she calls Vixen, Viktoria has been releasing a lot of good songs lately (she even gave Solenn Heussaff her song “Ladies Night”—and it is Solenn’s current single), but the spotlight now is her latest: “Wild Side.” In the video for the sexy song, Viktoria goes on a killing spree, Kill Bill-style. Fun!
Can’t wait for this truly original artist to release more songs and videos. And for more people to appreciate her and her music.
